Each link will take you to a set of pages which have the following:

LOCATION STATISTICS (I.E., "AVERAGES")

Mean

Calculate the mean which is what most people think of as the "average value" for a data set.

Median

Calculate the median, the value such that 50% of the data set is larger and 50% is smaller.

Mid-range

Calculate the mid-range, the value halfway between the smallest and largest values in a data set.

Mode

Calculate the mode, the value that appears most frequently in a data set.

VARIATION STATISTICS

Sum of squares

Calculate the sum of squares, the sum of the squared differences from the mean. This is used as an intermediate in many statistical calculations.

Variance

Calculate the variance, the sum of the squared differences from the mean (i.e., sum of squares) divided by the degrees of freedom.

Standard deviation

Calculate the standard deviation, the region where roughly 2/3 of the data is if the data is normally distributed, which is the square root of the variance.

Coefficient of Variation (CV)

Calculate the CV, the magnitude of the standard deviation relative to the mean value. Typically expressed as a percentage.

Interquartile Range (IQR)

Calculate the IQR, the width of the region that encapsulates the center 50% of the values in a data set.

SHAPE STATISTICS

Skewness

Calculate the skewness to determine asymmetry in a data set.

Kurtosis

Calculate the kurtosis to determine "peakedness" in a data set.

PROBABILITY

Binomial

Calculating probabilities using the binomial distribution.

Poisson

Calculating probabilities using the Poisson distribution.
